The Glasgow Girls & Women, who had been on the island since late December, beat the local team 0-4 in a friendly match played at the Municipal Stadium of Puerto del Carmen. The Scottish Cup U18 champions showed their superiority over a rival who could not stop the offensive potential of the British.
The Scottish team arrived in Lanzarote at the end of December with an expedition of U18 and U16 players, with the aim of preparing the season in a more favorable climate than their country. During their stay on the island, the team led by Danny Neville played two friendly matches against local teams, with a positive balance of two wins.
The first one was against Orientación Marítima, which they defeated 2-1 in a match played last Saturday. The second one was against CD Tinajo, which they thrashed 0-4 in the match that ended their Lanzarote stage. The Scottish team returned to Glasgow this Thursday, with the satisfaction of having made the most of their experience on the island.
Before the start of the match, the two teams were presented to the sound of a bagpiper who played «Scotland The Brave», the national anthem of Scotland. It was a detail that the Glasgow Girls & Women appreciated, who felt at home at the Municipal Stadium of Puerto del Carmen.

The match started with a clear chance for CD Tinajo, with a steal by Nélida from the British ball exit, but she went too wide and her shot went wide. It was the only dangerous approach of the locals, who saw how the Scots took control of the game and the scoreboard.
The Scottish Cup U18 champions responded with a free kick from the front by Laurie McComack, who the local goalkeeper could do nothing about, meaning 0-1 in the 10th minute. CD Tinajo could have equalized in the 20th minute, with a shot by Micaela from the edge of the area, but the ball went just wide.
The Lanzaroteans began to have problems getting the ball out, with the high pressure of the rivals. In the 22nd minute Bailey Cooper, top scorer of the Scottish league, missed a shot, alone, against Haridian, saving the Tinajo goalkeeper. However minutes later the second goal came for the Glasgow Girls & Women, with a long shot by Mandy Adams that saves the goalkeeper in the first instance, but after hitting the crossbar, ends up inside her goal.
With 0-2 the first half ended, agreed to 35 minutes. In the second half the team of Danny Neville started much stronger, achieving the third goal a few minutes after the restart. Bailey Cooper defines against Haridian after receiving a long ball, without the local goalkeeper being able to do anything.
A minute later it was Torrance Allan who enjoyed an excellent chance, with a shot that hit the post, achieving his goal in the 16th minute. A mistake in the ball exit of CD Tinajo, allowed Torrance Allan to beat Haridian without problems in the one on one, after stealing the ball at the penalty spot.
CD Tinajo tried to stretch lines. Juan Alemán made several substitutions to change the face of the match and that everyone had their minutes against the Scottish team. However the result remained anchored at 0-4, with victory for the Glasgow Girls & Woman, who thus put an end to their stay on the island.
The Glasgow Girls & Women will not say goodbye to Lanzarote for good, as they plan to return in June with the first team, which two seasons ago was in the top category of Scottish women’s football. It will be a new opportunity to enjoy quality women’s football on the island, and for the Scots to continue forging their bond with Lanzarote.
